FAQ
- What is the teachers' card?
The Education Department of the Flemish Community (www.ond.vlaanderen.be) issues a teachers' card to all Flemish teachers. This professional card is their evidence of being a school staff member. Indeed, together with the identity card, the teachers' card provides sufficient proof of identity.
The education magazine Klasse (www.klasse.be) distributes and supports the teachers' card.
- Goals of the teachers' card
To inform teachers
To support teachers
To value teachers
A wide range of institutions (museums, nature conservation centres, technological centres, cultural centres, theatres …) but also a lot of temporary events (exhibitions, festivals…) provide an important added value to education. They try to reach teachers via different channels. But letters, brochures, information on their own website, advertisements do not always reach the target group intended. The website of the teachers' card collects this information, keeps it updated and offers a user-friendly search engine allowing teachers to find exactly those initiatives that are organised in a certain region and are interesting for their curriculum area and their pupils.
Teachers are important multipliers as they disseminate interests and values to their pupils. Institutions, organisers of events at home and abroad, publishers, business managers…are all willing to help teachers perform their considerable pedagogical and educational task. They are ready to offer teachers free entrance, discounts on books, teaching resources, ICT… provided they can identify themselves as teachers.
Thanks to the advantages the organisers offer to them, teachers get more often and more actively involved in culture, the environment, sports, current events… And it is via their teachers that an increased number of Flemish pupils will familiarise themselves with the rich educational provision.
Furthermore, society also sends out a strong signal of its esteem for the teaching profession by accepting the card.
